Belly Up is a hilarious mystery novel by Stuart Gibbs, author of the Spy School and Charlie Thorne series. This book is about a boy named Teddy Fitzroy. Teddy’s parents work at Funjungle, a zoo owned by J.J. McCracken. Teddy’s mom works with orangutans and his dad is a photographer. Teddy and his parent used to live in the African Congo but were forced to leave because of war.
When Funjungle’s mascot, grumpy Henry the Hippo dies, Teddy sneaks into the autopsy room to see what killed him, Teddy is horrified to find out that Henry didn’t die from a natural cause, but from murder. Teddy Fitzroy, and Summer McCracken, J.J. McCracken’s daughter, try to find out what happened, and what really killed Henry. Their chase for the killer leads them all around Funjungle. Will the murderer get away, or will they be put in jail?
I really like this series by Gibbs, because it is like a cupcake. A delicious story, topped with hilarious tidbits of frosting and sprinkles. My favorite series Gibbs has written is the Spy School series down below and the way Gibbs can make books so interesting is amazing.
