Slider by Pete Hautman

Slider by Pete Hautman, is a breathtaking novel about a boy, David Miller. David has a younger brother named Mal. Mal is autistic and David, his sister Bridgette, and his parents all do whatever they can to make sure that Mal will have a good life, even if it means that they will have to pay a little less attention to David.

David really likes competitive eating, and he’s good enough to do it himself. However, disaster strikes when David accidentally buys half a hot dog with his mom’s credit card. David buys it from a website that claims that it is the half-hot-dog that Jooky Garafalo didn’t eat. Buying half a hot dog that you can’t eat is bad enough, but David accidentally bought it for two-thousand dollars.

David will do anything in his power to make sure that he can pay his mom back the two-thousand dollars that he used. David trains for the Super Pigiorno Bowl, an eating contest, with Mal, and his best friends Heyman and Cyn.

I really like this book because of all the twists and turns. It’s not bland, has tons of action, and lots of obstacles that David has to go through, not just avoid.
