The Doughnut Fix by Jessie Janowitz

The Donut Fix by Jessie Janowitz, is a wonderful novel about a boy called Tristan Levin who has to move from New York City to a tiny town named Petersville where there is only a general store, a gas station, and no restaurants at all. Tristan, also known as Tris, and his younger sisters Jeanine and Zoe all hate the idea of moving to another town where there is nothing to do.

On the first morning, Tristan, having nothing to do, goes down from his house nicknamed “The Purple Demon” because of the leaky roofs and flooding toilets in the town. Once he bikes to the town from his house, he immediately becomes overjoyed as he sees the sign in the window of the general store, “Yes we do have chocolate cream donuts!” turns out, they don’t. Tristan’s parents tell him to do a project while he and his siblings can’t go to school and he decides to use his time to figure out how to get the recipe for the “life-changing” chocolate cream donuts and how to sell them. While at the library, he meets a kid about his age named Josh, and they instantly start getting along. Josh helps Tristan try to get the recipe for the donuts and how to start a successful business.

Jessie Janowitz has also written a sequel to The Donut Fix called The Donut King. When Tristan becomes successful in the donut business. he still has a problem, he can’t make enough donuts for everyone that wants one. He always runs out of donuts in a matter of hours and doesn’t have time to make more. He is forced to participate in a cooking show where the host happens to be his mom’s old boss. Both of these books are incredible and are very unique.
