Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good by Louie Stowell

Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good is an excellent and hilarious book about the Norse god Loki. Some people may know Loki as the person from a movie or television show or others may know him from books such as this one. However, Stowell writes uniquely writes about Loki’s time in Midgard, known to us mortals as “Earth” and about his punishment and even a little bit of rescuing during Loki’s stay on Earth, him doing the rescuing and the other way around as well.

It all started when Loki, the god of mischief and trickery cut off the goddess Sif’s hair. Odin, the boss of the world then threw Loki into Midgard, off the rainbow highway connecting Earth to Asgard. Loki is forced to live with Heimdall and Hyrokkin disguised as his parents and Thor as his brother. They are all given aliases and lose their godly glow, Loki otherwise known as Liam is small and skinny, while Thor, Thomas, is strong and tall. Loki is also given a diary that he must write in every day or face eternal torture with snakes.

However, whenever Loki tries to do good, he somehow ends up doing bad, all of the progress is tracked by the diary which gives a Loki Virtue Score(LVS) which goes up and down depending on what he does. Then, one day, Loki and his “brother” Thor get captured by frost giants, the most vicious of all. Will they be able to escape the cold-blooded wrath of the giants, or will they die in their hands?

I thought that this was a beautifully written and unique novel. There are little details hidden throughout the book, and once you notice them you realize that some bland attributes are actually very well thought out. Along with that, it is written in a very similar style to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. this hilarious and illustrated novel is terrible if your trying to get some sleep as it will keep you up all night wondering what will happen next, but perfect to pass the time.
